Kenya safari trip: Visit the world’s top wildlife photography destination
I’ve taken many Kenya safari trips in my time, and Kenya has long been one of my favourite places on Earth to visit. The abundance of wildlife in the country is simply unprecedented – it truly is a wildlife photographer’s dream location!
So, it was no surprise to me when I heard that Kenya has been named as the premier destination for wildlife spotting and photography. After all, it’s home to the Maasai Mara, and more than 25,000 animal species.
Top destinations for wildlife photography
The findings were based on a recent study which reviewed 70 million wildlife photographs, as shared on an image-sharing website. Of these, it was found that half of the images were captured in African countries, and - in terms of the number of wildlife photographs captured there - the country which dominated overall was Kenya.
Other countries within Africa, including Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa, also made the top ten of the list. The African continent is certainly the go-to destination for wildlife photography enthusiasts.
Kenya safaris 2024
In my opinion, the Maasai Mara in Kenya is the best destination for photography safaris in the world.
If you’re interested in African wildlife, there is simply no other place where you can witness such an abundance of incredible wildlife, and where you can indulge in wildlife photography to your heart’s content.
On a Kenya safari trip, there is always something to observe and capture on camera. The African wildlife never fails to impress and no day in the Maasai Mara is the same as the next. This creates an exciting challenge even for the most highly skilled and experienced wildlife photographers!

My Africa photo safaris are available throughout the year.
1) Kenya Masaai Mara Migration
You can choose to visit Kenya during July, August or September, to witness The Great Migration – the mass movement of 1.5 million animals from the Masaai Mara into the Serengeti in Tanzania – a stunning spectacle!
2) African Big Cats
Alternatively, the equally beguiling Big Cat Safaris are available during February, March and November each year.
Both of these Kenya safari trips are the perfect opportunity for both photographers and non-photographers alike and you’ll get to see a whole host of majestic African wildlife; everything from lions, cheetahs and elephants to zebra, giraffes, antelope, and many more besides.
