In The Press: Featured In Travel Africa Magazine
Travel Africa magazine is, in my eyes, one of the very best publications dedicated to travel in this incredible continent. It’s a journal that I have loved to read for many years, in fact, since it was first published in 1997.
Therefore, it was a great honour to now have been featured in Travel Africa on a couple of occasions.
The Circle of Life
The first time my photography was featured in Travel Africa magazine was in February 2024, when I shared my thoughts on life and death; both of which I witness, and often photograph, while on safari in Africa.
My image ‘Getting A Head Start’ is a great example of this; it depicts a hyena making off with the head of a zebra, following a lion attack. This image was shortlisted in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2023 Awards.
A second feature in Travel Africa magazine
Since that original feature was published, I’ve also been pleased to appear again in Travel Africa magazine.
In the latest Safari-themed edition (March 2026), the magazine includes a feature focusing on black and white wildlife photography, along with one of my images and a few photography tips from me for readers interested in capturing wildlife in this timeless style.

African Animals in Black and White
Black and white photography has long been an important part of my work. Removing colour often allows attention to fall more naturally on the character, texture and expression of an animal. For subjects such as lions, buffalo or elephants, the absence of colour can sometimes reveal more than it hides.
It was a pleasure to contribute a photograph and some practical advice for readers interested in exploring this approach to wildlife photography while travelling in Africa.
In the article, I share a few simple tips for those interested in experimenting with monochrome wildlife photography while on safari, including paying attention to strong shapes, textures and natural contrast within the scene.
Travel magazine dedicated to highlighting the delights of Africa
Travel Africa magazine describes the country as “the world’s most exciting continent” and I’m inclined to agree.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I love to visit Africa and I have been doing so for more than 30 years.
As a wildlife photographer, I get to visit Africa many times each year on my photography solo trips and when hosting my photography safaris.
No visit to Africa is short of excitement, and no matter how many times I visit I always leave in awe of the wildlife that I have witnessed there.
