In the Press: Interview about marketing wildlife photography and safari tours

Recently, I had the pleasure of joining PR and communications consultant Zoe Hiljemark on her interview series focused on photography marketing.

We discussed my journey into wildlife photography and the marketing strategies that help me connect with my audience and sell my fine art wildlife prints, books and wildlife photo safaris.

A Glimpse into My Wildlife Photography Journey

During our conversation, I shared insights on how my career started, the role of social media in building my audience, and how the industry has evolved. We also discussed my approach to ethical tourism and what it means to capture animals with patience and respect.

As I mentioned to Zoe, on my safaris, the welfare of the wildlife always comes first—we never chase or crowd animals, which unfortunately remains common in some tours.

Essential skills for wildlife photographers

Something else we talked about during the interview was ethical wildlife tourism. As I said to Zoe, for me, patience, respect, and understanding animal behaviour are at the heart of successful wildlife photography.

I spoke about how these principles extend to my approach as a wildlife safari host, and how I am careful to ensure that we always prioritise the animals’ well-being. If you have ever been on a safari with me, you’ll know that we never chase animals in the wild nor get so close to the animals that they feel threatened by our presence, as many other guides sadly do.

I also shared that I’m thrilled to be introducing new wildlife photo safaris and tours to Tanzania, Amboseli, and Botswana, in addition to my popular existing trips to Kenya, India, and Uganda.
