In the Press: Featured in Amateur Photographer Magazine
‘Parallel Lines’ by David Lloyd is featured on the cover of a recent edition of Amateur Photographer magazine
Amateur Photographer magazine has been a familiar name in photography for generations. In fact, it’s the oldest continually published photography magazine in the world. It’s also one of my favourite photography magazines of all time.
So, naturally, it was a pleasure to recently be featured in the magazine and on the publication's website, and to have my image, ‘Parallel Lines’, shared on the front cover of the print edition.
Amateur Photographer magazine, May 2026
The interview feature within Amateur Photographer magazine was conducted by fellow wildlife photographer and long-time friend, Graeme Green of The New Big Five fame.
The resulting article focuses on my black and white African wildlife photography.
Black and White African Wildlife Photography
If you've followed my work for any length of time, you'll know that black and white photography has become an important part of my photographic style.
While colour can be beautiful, I have always been drawn to the way black and white photography simplifies a scene and places greater emphasis on texture, shape, light and expression. For certain subjects, particularly African wildlife, I find that it can create a stronger and more timeless image.
The feature in Amateur Photographer magazine includes a selection of my wildlife photographs, captured during my travels throughout Africa over the years. There’s also some thoughts I shared on my approach to photographing animals in black and white.
Thank You to Amateur Photographer Magazine
My thanks go to Graeme Green, editor Geoff Harris and all the team at Amateur Photographer for choosing to feature my work.
If you would like to read the article, you can view it on the Amateur Photographer website or purchase a copy of the 19th May 2026 edition of Amateur Photographer magazine - back copies are currently available via the Kelsey Publishing website.
This edition focuses on black and white photography, so if this is a style you’re interested in, don’t miss it!
