With their bold orange coats and black stripes, Bengal tigers of India are the embodiment of power and grace, making them the ultimate draw for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.

If you are interested in joining me on a safari to India, keep reading to discover more about the Bengal tigers of India and how you can join me on one of my upcoming photography tours there in May 2025 and May 2026.

Bengal Tigers: The crown jewel of Indian wildlife

Bengal tigers are among the most iconic and mesmerising wild animal species to witness in real life.

As apex predators, they are known for their solitary behaviour and elusive nature. They are also renowned for their incredible adaptability to India’s diverse environments. They live and thrive in both dense forests and open grasslands.

Thanks to focused conservation efforts of recent years, I’m pleased to be able to report that the population of Bengal tigers in India is steadily increasing, though their habitats remain fragile.

Photographing Indian tigers in the wild

Believe me when I tell you that spotting a tiger in the wild is no ordinary experience.

Their distinctive low growls, remarkable striped coats and their piercing, amber-coloured eyes make each sighting of a Bengal tiger unforgettable.

May every year presents prime opportunities for observing them in their natural habitat. As they emerge to seek out their favourite waterholes, there are greater chances than at any other time in the year to view them in the wild.

Observe the best Indian wildlife on a photo safari

India has a special place in my heart and I have travelled to the country more times than I can count over the past two decades.

Since it is home to more than 70% of the world’s wild tiger population and offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness these majestic big cats up close.

Every time I visit, I am blessed with the chance to see and photograph tigers and other incredible Indian wildlife. Now, you can join me and witness the Bengal tigers of India for yourself.

On my Indian photo safaris, I’ll guide you through three of India’s national parks — Kaziranga, Pench, and Bandhavgarh — giving you the incredible opportunity to see and photograph Bengal tigers for yourself.

Where to witness Bengal tigers of India

Each of the three national parks in India we visit during my annual Indian photo safari tours offers the chance to observe tigers:

  • Bandhavgarh National Park: Famous for its high tiger density, Bandhavgarh is often regarded as the best place to see and photograph these big cats. Here, tigers roam freely among the park’s lush vegetation and ancient ruins.

  • Pench National Park: Known as the inspiration behind The Jungle Book, Pench provides a stunning backdrop for tiger sightings. Its open forests and meadows are ideal for observing tigers of India in the golden light of dawn or dusk.

  • Kaziranga National Park: While Kaziranga is celebrated for its rhinos, it’s also home to a healthy tiger population. The park’s unique grasslands and wetlands present a variety of photographic opportunities.

Why visit India in May?

May is the best time to travel to India as the tigers are easier to find and photograph. Waterholes attract the wildlife and foliage is sparse, improving visibility.

This season also offers photographers warm, diffused light — perfect for capturing stunning images of Bengal tigers and other Indian wildlife.

Small and personal group safari tours to India

My Indian wildlife photography safaris present not just the chance to see Bengal tigers and other Indian wildlife, but also the opportunity to benefit from personalised photography tuition, helping you to capture high-quality photographs:

  • Small groups ensure you have space to set up your shots and plenty of time for individual guidance. Our safari vehicles hold a maximum of two photographers so you have the scope to move around as required, and photograph in comfort.

  • Expert tuition from me, coupled with insights from the highly respected guide, Karan Rana of Pugdundee Safaris. You’ll develop your wildlife photography skills and enjoy memories to last a lifetime.

  • A balanced itinerary lets you focus on your wildlife photography while enjoying the rich cultural and natural diversity India has to offer.

  • Comfortable accommodation provides the perfect way to unwind after a thrilling day in the wild.
